Plot summary
The film is set in the coal belt of India, where Saryu Bhan Singh (Vinod Khanna) is a powerful and corrupt ex-owner turned mafioso who controls the coal mines and the people with an iron fist. He is challenged by Nisheeth Kumar (Suniel Shetty), a newly appointed district collector who wants to bring law and order to the region. Singh sends his most loyal and ruthless henchman Karua (Vipinno) to intimidate and eliminate Kumar, but things go wrong when Karua accidentally injures Kumar's wife and kidnaps his infant son. The film follows the cat-and-mouse game between Kumar and Singh, as well as the emotional bond that develops between Karua and the baby.

Critical reception
The film received mixed reviews from the critics. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated it 3 stars out of 5 and called it an absorbing and engaging film. Subhash K. Jha of NDTV also gave it 3 stars and praised the performances of Vinod Khanna and Vipinno. Joginder Tuteja of Rediff.com also rated it 3 stars and termed it different and unconventional. However, Noyon Jyoti Parasara of NowRunning.com gave it only 1.5 stars and criticized it for being flawed, half-hearted and half-baked. The film also failed to impress the audience and was a commercial disaster.
